The Moondogs project was born in 2004: a group of friends come together without any audition, musicians with in common the same great passion for the same idols. In 10 years of experience and nearly a thousand gigs Daniele, Gianfranco, Gianni and Marco have continuously improved their style, interpretation of Beatles music, and have reached a strong harmony between themselves.
The band counts important gigs that are milestones in the band’s memories, besides being unforgettable work experiences. These include “Teatro Adriano” in Rome (2006) for the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the British band in Italy; University Bocconi in Milan for the presentation of the music event “Across the Universe” (2009); 24 performances in tour with the actors Antonio Stornaiolo and Emilio Solfrizzi (July 2010). The Moondogs are the only Beatles cover band that had the honour to play in the most important Italian jazz club, the “Blue Note” in Milan (2008).
The band is proud of its very personal composition of the unreleased song “Oh yeah”, strongly inspired to the Beatles. The song has been included in the documentary DVD “Beat Parade” about music in the sixties hosted by Renzo Arbore. The DVD has been attached to “Italian Beat”, published by “Tv Sorrisi e Canzoni” and “Panorama”. On the 14th and 21st of December 2010, the documentary has been broadcasted by the “Sky channel Arturo”.
The band’s show features the most significant songs of the Beatles, from the early beat songs to the later more psychedelic rock songs. Main part of the work done by the band is focused on the attention to the sound of each Beatles' album, a challenge faced by the Moondogs with great enthusiasm.
The band uses vintage instruments for both live and studio sessions: Rickenbaker, Hofner, Ludwig, Ephipone, Gibson, Gretsch, Fender, Vox amps. During the gigs no pre-records nor samplers are used for a 100% live performance with all songs played in the original tones. All components of the band use stage hairdos and costumes, faithful replicas of the original ones. Music and scene merge into one atmosphere that forces the audience to think about the Beatles: this is the pleasure and honor of the band.
The Moondogs have been described by a famous Italian radio station RDS (RADIO DIMENSIONE SUONO) as “the most strongly Beatles inspired band” and by Repubblica.it (Italian newspaper) as “the benchmark of reference in the Italian scene of Beatles” for its attention to details and vocal harmonies, the faithful reproduction of the songs note after note and the care for all stage details.
